Six Tools To Keep Your Head Straight As A Busy Mom

As a wife, mom of 3, and working full time it is a struggle to keep everything straight of what needs to be done and when. Trust me, most days I would lose my head, if it wasn’t attached! So there are some tools that I use every single day so not to forget anything.

Hanging Calendar - I have one that I keep hanging in the kitchen, so that it can be easily seen. In this one I write down things like Trash days, Recycle days, birthday days, and school schedule. I use this calendar mostly to help keep my husband informed of things that he can help out with. Then I use my calendar in my phone.

Electronic Calendar - I mainly live off my calendar in my phone. No, I don’t plan out every second the day, but I put things that need to be done. What I love about this calendar is that I can set up notifications of when things are happening. I use this for appointments for everyone, order reminders, school things, work meetings that I need to do something for ahead of time, etc. I set up things that happen on weekly or monthly schedules; team and business calls and meetings, specific days to pay bills, etc. Most everything in here I have to do, so I put in anything that I think I need to remember to do on a specific date.

Post It Notes (sticky notes) - I live by Post It Notes! They are the best invention in my opinion. I use post it notes at work and at home. They are my list keepers and these are easy to jot down quick notes to remember things. At work, I make notes of things I still need to do, meeting notes, my desk has sticky notes everywhere! I especially use them to jot down the things that I think of at work that I need to do at home. So I bring these home and my house gets cluttered with them, at least until I complete the tasks on them. I love listening to Personal Development audios, so if I hear something that I want to remember, I write it on a sticky note. I actually have a box in my office with sticky notes of things I hear that I want to remember. Yeah, I am addicted to these little pieces of sticky paper. Lol!

Reminder App - In my iPhone there is an App that you can set Reminders. You can set up Reminders of daily, weekly and monthly things. What I like most about this is that it will keep reminding you until you actually mark the task as complete. So for example, I have a Reminder set for every Wednesday evening at 7pm to be reminded to pay bills. If I don’t get to it at that time, it will continue to remind me even days later, until I go and clear it from the list. This feature of it is great, because we all know that life gets busy and we can’t always get things done when we want.

Notes App - My iPhone also came with a Notes App. This is a favorite of mine because I store so much information in different notes within this. I keep website login information, websites that I go to often, lists, etc. This App will let you create checklists even, which is great for grocery lists!

Dry Erase Board - Now I don’t have a huge wall to put a really big dry erase board like I would love to have someday, so for now it is smaller. But even the size I have, it is hanging in the kitchen for everyone to see. It write the date at the top and it is my daily “To Do” list.

I have each person name and I write on tasks/chores they need to get done. I have a “ Today’s Dinner” section that I write in, IF I have dinner planned out ahead of time. No, I am not someone that meal preps that takes more organization than I have at this moment in my life. Then, I have a list of daily things that we need to get done each night after we get home until we go to bed. It is my hope with this board that people will see the easy tasks that need to be accomplished and help me out where they can. But we probably all know that is wishful thinking, huh?

Now I know there are probably other better apps out there that do the same things and better. However, I like easy and simple. I don’t have time to try to learn fancy apps. Plus, I like having something that I can actually touch. I am getting old and my kids have made my memory horrible, so I can’t work off of a screen all the time.

I hope that these helped you to get your life a bit straightened out. Because we all know that we need a little help remembering things since we live such busy lives nowadays. I would love to know what you use to help keep your life straight.
