As a full time working mom, I know what it is like to feel tired all the time and honestly, I am sick of being tired all the time. Aren’t you?
Here is a list of the top 10 things that I do, or that I try to do to make my energy levels higher. If I don't try different things during the day, I am wanting to take a nap each day, but we all know that can’t happen.
#1 - Get Enough Sleep
Sleep...what is sleep? I can tell you that my body has been running on very little sleep for the past 2 years now. My body has become used to it, but I am in no way saying this is right. You should get anywhere from 7 to 8 hours of solid uninterrupted sleep each night. When you sleep your body recharges. Sleep plays a vital role when it comes to your health. Not getting enough sleep can lead to major health issues that you don’t want to have to deal with. Get as much good quality sleep as you can.
#2 - Drink Two Glasses of Water
We all know that our bodies are made up of mostly water. Did you also know that you should be drinking half your weight in ounces of water each day? That is right! And yes, that can be a lot of water for most people. So for example, if you weigh 150 pounds you should be drinking 75 ounces of water each day.Try to get your water drank earlier in the day if you can, so as not to be having to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.I always start my day by drinking a glass of water before my feet even hit the floor. You should give it a try too. Get your body hydrated after sleeping and start your day off right.
#3 - Take a Quick 10 Minute Walk
This one is huge for me because I sit at a desk most of my work day.Yes, I know that if you have a manual labor job, or are on your feet a lot for your job; you are tired. But did you know that sitting down all day and thinking is just as tiring? Well, trust me it is.Most days my coworkers and I will take a few short walks, just to get our blood flowing in our bodies again.Taking a quick walk will help wake you up to get you past the “wanting to take a nap” phase you may be going through.Give it a try and see how good it works to wake you up!
#4 - Smell Peppermint Oil
Now Peppermint Oil has so many amazing benefits, but for this article the main reason I love it is when I smell it, it opens up my nasal passages and helps wake me up.I usually just sniff it right from the bottle, but you can also dab some on your wrist and then smell your wrist. It is personal preference.I carry Peppermint Oil with me at all times. Love this stuff!
#5 - Take Deep Breaths
Sometimes you just need to stop and take 5 extremely deep breaths.Breathe in as long as you can, hold it for a count of 10, and then exhale getting every bit of air out.Repeat for at least 5 times. Feel better?
#6 - Avoid Alcohol
Ok, don’t get me wrong, there are many days that I am ready for an adult beverage prior to noon, especially on the weekends when I am home with my kids all day...LOL!But alcohol makes me tired. It doesn’t matter what I drink, I have yet to find something that actually wakes me up. So I really do not drink too often. You should try to avoid alcohol as often as possible, but if you are wanting to have an adult beverage, be sure to drink them in the evening instead of during the day. This will also help you to sleep better in the evening too.
#7 - Eat Every 4 Hours
Keeping your blood sugar levels steady also helps to fight fatigue.Just like an infant that needs to eat every 3 to 4 hours, adults are no different and require food every 4 hours to keep going. Now be sure that you are having healthy nutritious foods at this time. Don’t load up on carbs and get that crash later.Load up on proteins, fats, vegetables, and nuts to keep your body from getting fatigued.
#8 - Drink Coffee Through the Day
Now I could drink coffee all day long and have no problem sleeping, but I know that most people can’t do this. But if you can, try just taking sips of coffee throughout the day. This will give your body just a little caffeine fix throughout the day to keep you going. Drinking little sips of coffee in the late afternoon evening hours will not give you insomnia, as if it would if you drank cups of coffee later in the day.
#9 - Control Stress
Well I am not going to lie, this one is difficult for me each and every day. I stress about the stress...that may or may not...be coming in my life.Stress actually consumes huge amounts of energy. You need to find something that works for you that helps you to control your stress levels.Maybe you have a friend or relative that you can talk to, or join a support group, or talk to a therapist. You can also try meditation, yoga, or even a nice relaxing bath.Stress produces cortisol the stress hormone in your body and can wreak havoc on your body in many ways, so getting this under control is huge. Stress has more effects on your body that you may even know.Figure out what works best for you to manage your stress.
#10 - Make Things Wait
Do you ever just feel absolutely overwhelmed with all that is on your plate to do? Yeah, been there done that...many times. My biggest advice to you on this is every so often you have to just say the hell with it and take a break. Take an evening that you normally would do so many things and just do nothing, just for one night. Don’t worry everything will still be there tomorrow and you can get to it tomorrow or another day. You are not a robot, you can’t just keep going and going and going. You will hit a wall and burn out FAST! That is the worst feeling.Do yourself a favor and cut yourself a little slack, you deserve to take a break...so take a night and just do nothing. Give yourself permission to be lazy and don’t you dare make yourself feel bad about taking a break either!
